MLK Youth Program & Gordon College Fair held on Feb 1st

Greenville, South Carolina - Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation along with Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha will sponsor its 40th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth and Rudolph G. Gordon on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the Trone Student Center on the campus of Furman University.

This event recognizes and encourages Greenville Country high school students to remain in school and pursue college. Greenville School District is a long-time partner with the program that has been conducted since 1977. This year, a total 275 High School Students will receive awards from the event or their High school's Award Ceremonies in one of the five following categories:
Academics, Art, Athletics, Leadership, and Music.
Each high school has its own selection method process but we encourage them to select students who talented in those above areas but may need encouragement to pursue college.
Normally held on the first Saturday in February, Youth Awards certificates to 53 students received awards at the event with more than 200 people attending the event.
We also held a College Fair (10 AM to 12 AM) were invited colleges to send representation to the event and we hold two seminars on "Getting the most out Financial Aid" and "Experiences from their first year in College" with current and former students from Furman, USC-Upstate and Clemson University.
